
Dr. Mikk Pauklin
MD, PhD, FEBO
After graduating the Medical Faculty of Tartu University in 2004, he spent 4 years doing research at
University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. The main topic of his research was pathogenesis and
treatment of limbal stem cell deficiency with cultivated limbal epithelium. He defended his PhD
thesis at University of Duisburg-Essen in 2011 (summa cum laude) and received the Doctoral Thesis
Award of Hermann-Wacker-Fond from the German Society of Ophthalmology.
He completed ophthalmic residency at the Eye Clinic of Tartu University Hospital in 2009 and has
worked at the clinic since then, first as teaching physician and from September 2021, as head of eye
clinic. His special field of interest include ocular surface diseases like limbal stem cell deficiency and
dry eye disease.
He has been board member of Estonian Society of Ophthalmology since 2011 and president of the
society since 2018.

Dr. Aleks Kree
MD, FEBO
Dr Aleks Kree graduated the Medical Faculty of The University of Tartu, Estonia, in 2008. The residency in ophthalmology was in most part conducted in Eye Clinic of Tartu University, but also in East Tallinn Central Hospital Eye Clinic in Estonia and University Eye Hospital in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The residency was completed in 2011 by the national and European Board of Ophthalmology exams. Since then, he’s been working in the Eye Clinic of Tartu University as an ophthalmologist, teaching students and residents alike.
His main fields of interests are glaucoma and its implant surgery, cataract surgery and intraocular refractive surgery.
Dr Kree is a Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology, as well as board member of Estonian Ophthalmologists Society and member of Estonian Eye Surgeons Association.
