
Dr. Aleks Kree
MD, FEBO
Dr Aleks Kree graduated the Medical Faculty of The University of Tartu, Estonia, in 2008. The residency in ophthalmology was in most part conducted in Eye Clinic of Tartu University, but also in East Tallinn Central Hospital Eye Clinic in Estonia and University Eye Hospital in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The residency was completed in 2011 by the national and European Board of Ophthalmology exams. Since then, he’s been working in the Eye Clinic of Tartu University as an ophthalmologist, teaching students and residents alike.
His main fields of interests are glaucoma and its implant surgery, cataract surgery and intraocular refractive surgery.
Dr Kree is a Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology, as well as board member of Estonian Ophthalmologists Society and member of Estonian Eye Surgeons Association.

Dr. Inger Heleen Viikna
My academic education started in the University of Tartu which I graduated in 2015. After the university I did my 5 year ophthalmology residency with side specialty in eye surgery mainly in East-Tallinn Central Hostpital but also in Tartu, Ida-Viru, Zurich, Milan and Athens. Since then I have been working in Silmalaser Eye Clinic and North-Estonian Regional Hospital. I am a Fellow of International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO 2020) as well as board member of Estonian Ophthalmologists Society.

Dr. Agnė Kručaitė
Agnė Kručaitė graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in 2014. In 2014-2017 she completed her ophthalmology residency at the Department of Ophthalmology, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Hospital. Since 2017, she has been working at the Department of Ophthalmology, Kaunas Clinics, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Hospital. Her main areas of interest are paediatric ophthalmology and rare eye diseases.

Dr. Jana Gertnere
I graduated the Riga Stradin University. Since 1999 I `m working as a laser refractive surgeon at the Dr. Solomatin Eye Center. My professional interests are refractive surgery, treatment of keratoconus, corneal diseases, myopia control. I am a member of the European and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and Latvian Ophtalmological Society.

Dr. Reili Rebane
MD, FEBO
She has finished ophthalmic surgery residency in 2017 and works at East Tallinn Central Hospital as an oculoplastic surgeon and neuroophthalmologist.

Professor Reda Žemaitienė
Prof. Reda Žemaitienė is Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno Klinikos; Head of the Cornea and uveitis sector. Professor is an author of 6 textbooks and 135 scientific articles.
The main field of interest: cataract, glaucoma, cornea, uveitis, and pediatric rare eye diseases.

PhD. Jurgis Trumpaitis
MD
Jurgis Trumpaitis graduated Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Medical Academy (former Kaunas
Medical University, Faculty of Medicine) Kaunas, Lithuania in 2006.
The residency in ophthalmology graduated at the Department of Ophthalmology, Lithuanian University
of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics, Lithuania in 2010.
PhD in biomedical sciences at the Department of Ophthalmology, Lithuanian University of Health
Sciences Kaunas Clinics, Lithuania in 2015.
Also, Jurgis Trumpaitis had internships in Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, University Hospital
Munchen, Germany, University Hospital Magdeburg, Germany and Tallin University Hospital, Estonia.
Since 2010 he has been working at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics,
department of Ophthalmology as an ophthalmologist.
His main areas of interest are inflammatory eye diseases, oculoplastic surgery and eye oncology. He is a
member of the Lithuanian Society of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Katrin Eerme
Dr.Katrin Eerme graduated the Medical Faculty of The University of Tartu, Estonia, in 2004. In 2004-2007 she completed ophthalmology residency in Eye Clinic of Tartu University Hospital and East Tallinn Central Hospital Eye Clinic and did the national and European Board of Ophthalmology exams. Since 2007 she is working in East Tallinn Central Hospital, with a special interest in pediatric ophthalmology and medical retina.

Dr Maarjaliis Paavo
Dr. Maarjaliis Paavo received a medical degree from the University of Tartu and continued to do ophthalmology residency in the Eye Clinic of Tartu University Hospital. In 2014 she started working in the Helsinki University Eye Hospital where she is currently a consultant in the Medical Retina unit. Her research work is mainly focused on retinal imaging studies and inherited retinal disease. In 2017-2018 she did a clinical research fellowship in Columbia University in New York and is currently finishing PhD studies in ophthalmology in Tartu University.

Ph.D. Mykhailo Bykhovets
Graduated from the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia State Medical University.
2012 – 2022 worked in Chernihiv Regional Hospital at The Eye Microsurgery Department.
Since 2022 working at the Dr. Solomatin Eye Center.
My professional interests are cataract and glaucoma surgery. Also conduct research and treatment in the field of diabetic retinopathy, have 13 publications.

Dr Aap Toming
Dr. Aap Toming graduated from the Medical Faculty of The University of Tartu, Estonia, in 2015. After a brief GP career in Finland, ophthalmology residency was started in 2019 in the Eye Clinic of Tartu University with cycles in East Tallinn Central Hospital Eye Clinic, East-Viru Central Hospital Eye Clinic and Silmalaser Eye Clinic. After the successful completion of the final exam recently, he aspires to also succeed in taking the Paris EBO exam soon. Interests are broad but especially include using an eye exam to find the first clues to an underlying general disease. Junior member of the Estonian Ophthalmologists Society.

Dr Laura Mauring
Laura Mauring is an ophthalmologist working in Tartu University Hopsital Eye Clinic as well as a resident in medical genetics. She was the first medical fellow of ERN-Eye in rare genetic eye diseases centre in Strasbourg University Hospital, France. She holds a postgraduate university diploma (diplôme inter-universitaire, DIU) in hereditary retinal and optic nerve diseases from France. She is also a fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) since 2018.

Dr Delis Linntam
I graduated from the University of Tartu with specialization in ophthalmology. Since 2020 I am taking on additional training in residency of ophthalmic surgery, currently working in East Tallinn Central Hospital. My profound interests in the field are ophthalmic oncology and oculoplastics.

PhD Ugnė Rumelaitienė
Working place at the Department of Ophthalmology at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Area of interest: cataract, glaucoma, keratoconus. Ugnė Rumelaitienė 2008 graduated faculty of Medicine in Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, 2012 - graduated Residency of Ophthalmology in Department of Ophthalmology in the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, received PhD degree at 2022 at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.

Dr Margarita Rebrov
Dr.Margarita Rebrov did ophthalmology residency in East Tallinn Central Hospital Eye Clinic in 2008- 2012 and worked there till July 2020. During residency she had an opportunity improve knowledge and skills in Vienna Rudolfstiftung Hospital, Eye department, under guidance Prof. Susanne Binder, also in Heidelberg University Eye Clinic Uveitis Centrum, as well in Université de Paris Hôpital Cochin. Her main special interests are uveitis and medical retina. She works now in Turman Eye Clinic and Confido Medical Center.
In September 2022 she starts PhD study in Tartu University in the field of Diabetic Retinopathy.

Dr Rasa Strupaitė-Šileikienė
I graduated Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine in 2011. In 2014 I completed the ophthalmology residency in the Eye clinic at the Vilnius university Hospital Santaros Klinikos and continue to work here.
In 2020 received the PhD degree at the Vilniu university. Main fields of interest are medical retina and inherited retinal dystrophies.

Dr Kristiāna Čačka
I’m 3rd year ophthalmology resident from Riga Stradins university. Currently I’m working in Children’s clinical university hospital and in Latvian American eye centre. Mostly i am interested in paediatric ophthalmology.

Dr. Vilma Jūratė Balčiūnienė
Associate Professor, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) and head of the retina unit at LSMU Hospital Kauno Klinikos, Lithuania
Vilma Jūratė Balčiūnienė is a medical retina specialist in the ophthalmology department at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) Hospital Kauno Klinikos, where she is head of the retina unit. She is also an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at LSMU.
Dr. Balčiūnienė attended medical school at the University of Medicine, Kaunas, Lithuania, and completed her residency in ophthalmology at the department of ophthalmology, University Hospital of LSMU. She participates in medical student, resident, and fellow education, and her research mainly focuses on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Balčiūnienė defended her PhD thesis on the incidence, clinical course, and risk factors of diabetic retinopathy in type 1 diabetes.
In clinical practice, Dr. Balčiūnienė focuses on medical retina, particularly macular, vascular, and hereditary retinal diseases. In parallel to her clinical commitments and expertise, she has been acknowledged internationally in conducting clinical trials and has been the principal investigator for more than 20 clinical trials and translational research projects.
She has been president of the Lithuanian Ophthalmological Society since 2018 and is a member of the EURETINA Board and member of Vision Academy.
